Establish yourself in an existing building
for history and dynamism
Naturally, there is always space for your business on one of the roomy business-parks: De Hemrik, De Zwette, and De Werp have something for everyone. But, in Leeuwarden. We also like to look further, or indeed back, if you like. In historic and sometimes centuries-old buildings around the city centre, which are bring brought right up to date with today's business needs.
What about the Emmastate on the Emmakade? The solid and stately building built in the Amsterdam School style was built around 80 years ago for use by NUON energy. Over the years it has been split up, meaning that the former offices are now used by tens of businesses and flex-workers. You can hire various business units here, ranging from storage space through to fully-furnished office space. There are characteristic classrooms, a congress hall, flex-work spaces and, if you're ever hungry at work, a well-rated restaurant.
Made for the wishes of today - progressive
In the same vein, but a little more centrally-located in the city, is Z. The building was completed recently and before that was a pumping and water source station, and also another NUON energy office: the NUON Logo still hangs on the outer wall of the building. Now, it's regaining some of its earlier gloss thanks to a large grand café on the ground floor (Grand Café Z), where you can get some of (officially) the best coffee in Friesland. Z has become one of the most popular flex-work location in the city, thanks to its good facilities including fast internet, offices available for daily hire, meeting rooms and conference facilities.
The historic city centre of Leeuwarden is also home to De Kanselarij. The centuries-old building is equally arresting inside and out: the basement, for instance, with its in-built cross shaped vaulting is now a series of impactful meeting and presentation rooms. The Kanselarij puts a strong focus on the collaboration between education, business, and the government. Large educational providers are partners within the building, and including institutions such as the NVO-NCW (a union) and the Innovatiepact Friesland.
One of the most recent developments within Leeuwarder business real estate is There. With 3,000 square metres of space for 30 start-ups, it is the largest business eco-system in the Northern Netherlands, and is situated just a ten minute walk from the centre. All of the participating businesses go about their work in a unconventional and progressive manner.
Last but not least comes Crystalic. Our overview of all the business parks isn't complete without this characteristic pyramid on the edge of the city. Office space is available to rent with a minimum of 23 square metres up to 500 square metres, and the park is committed to bettering its facilities in the future. Naturally, there are various meeting rooms, and a lunch hall for coffee and snacks, but there is also a nursery/junior school, and a sports school. There is also a petanque pictch, and during lunch hours there are various regular and free to access 'inspiration sessions'. All of this sits under that iconic, huge, glazed roof.
