Locations in Leeuwarden
Welcome to Leeuwarden, a warm and welcoming capital city that is also the economic heart of Friesland. We have already been considered a front runner in dairy and financial services for several years, and the city has now developed itself to become a Capital of Water Technology. It is a city where with a welcoming personality, where business people and their companies are beckoned in with open arms.
Strengthening and stimulating - an urge to innovate
Since olden times, the Frisian economy has been rooted in the agricultural sector. An economy of milk, butter, and cheese- all centred around Leeuwarden. The result of this long-running association with the dairy sector has resulted in, for example, the Dairy Valley: where all of the biggest players in the dairy production chain come together. Around 80 businesses in the sector strengthen and stimulate eachother to make the world's most sustainable supply chain.
This urge to innovate can also be seen at the WaterCampus. Here you'll find government, research and high-tech business coming together, including the likes of Shell, Unilever, and Heineken. They are all engaged in creating solutions to the world's most important water issues. WaterCampus Leeuwarden has become the lynchpin in the Duthc water-technology sector, and has a binding role for the sector across the entirety of Europe. Fitting for a province where water is such a large part of the landscape, and has been so important for development.
for queue-free roads
Leeuwarden is also exceptionally strong in the financial and business services sector. According to the CBS (Dutch national statistical agency), the city has the largest financial sector in the North and Eastern Netherlands. Rabobank, ING, Aegon; the CJIB, and the Belastingdienst (national tax authority) all have outlets in the city.
All of this business activity, naturally, must be supported by good infrastructure. In recent years, both in and around Leeuwarden, significant investment has been put into roads and accessibility. With new aquaducts, and the so-called 'Haak om Leeuwarden', there's always clear road ahead of you. We don't do queues on roads- and you can be within the Randstad region within the hour. The international airport Groningen Airport Eelde is even closer to the city.
So, it is likely that Leeuwarden is an outstanding place to locate your business: for yourself, and your employees. We have a lovely city to live in- as a royal city for centuries it has an historic city centre filled with characteristic buildings, flowing waterways, and an exceptional food and drink scene. It's affordable, we get on with eachother, and both within and just outside the city you'll find plentiful beautiful nature. It's not for nothing that the happiest people in the Netherlands live in the North.
